Dangerous Processed Food - How to Make the Switch to Whole Food



Our society is all about convenience and speed. Some of us can remember the time before microwave ovens when we had to reheat food using a stove. Now, reheating something for two minutes in a microwave seems to take too long. It is no wonder that fast-food restaurants never lose popularity. It is rare to drive past a fast-food place where there isn't a line full of cars waiting there turn to order in the drive-through.

The problem with this is that busy people often turn to the convenience of processed food to make life easier. However, the downside is that processed food can be the leading factor to a variety of health issues, obesity being a huge one.

When you think of what exactly processed food is, think in terms of what you find in boxes, cans, or other types of packaging. These types of food are typically found within the inner aisles of the supermarket or in any fast-food establishment. The food we should be eating are whole, natural food which is typically found on the outer perimeter of the supermarket. These types of food come in their natural state. Food such as lean meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds.

Many people do not bother with whole food because they require preparation. It isn't anymore difficult to eat healthier than it is to wait for 15 minutes in a drive-through. If you work a 9 to 5 job, somewhere within your day and/or week, you have time to yourself. If you devote part of that time to preparing your meals for at least three days worth, you can make a significant change in your overall health.

Eating processed food on a regular basis can lead to health issues such as:

 

  • Obesity

  • Heart disease

  • Diabetes

  • Hypertension


 

Although eating whole food can take a little bit more work, after awhile, it becomes second nature. Once you notice the difference in your health, the prep time will be insignificant.

There are several benefits to preparing your own healthy meals. For one, you save much more money because you can purchase certain items in bulk. You save yourself time during your week because you are not spending time dining out. You may even notice some weight loss.

Give it a try for a week or two. It is easy if you prep your meals twice a week (usually on a Sunday and a Wednesday). You will save time, money, and your health.
