Strengthening Your Immune System: Things To Eat And Things Not To Eat

To strengthen and build up your immune system, there are things worth doing and things to avoid doing.

Produce: organic produce is much healthier and nutritious than non-organic, though more expensive, all produce should be fresh, ripe in season and locally grown. The color of the food is important an entire rainbow of colorful fruits and vegetables is ideal. Consider broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and other calciferous vegetable.

Meat: use only organic or free-range hormone and antibiotic free meats, lean meat is the healthiest and preferable, if you cannot get lean meat, you need to trim of all excess fat before cooking.

Poultry: your poultry should be free range or organic, antibiotic and hormone-free.

Eggs: source your eggs from organic or free-range, antibiotic and hormone-free poultry. Consider buying eggs listed as "High omega 3", it is much healthier.

Seafood: Eat only smaller varieties of cold water, non-farmed raised fish, fish should not smell bad.

Whole fresh foods: Eat whole fresh foods only, read labels carefully and look for foods that contain only one ingredient, look for the word 'whole' before the first ingredient on the list or label. In order of preference, fresh food is far more nutritious than frozen, frozen is better than canned, while can is better than processed food.

Things to avoid: Avoid non-organic produce, non-organic fruits and vegetables are sprayed with pesticides, harmful chemicals. Keep off from ground meat. A patty of ground beef can contain body parts from up to 80 cattle and it is difficult to determine the health of those cattle, if you must eat ground meat, buy a whole cut and grind it yourself, butcher cuts are much safer than ground meat. On the part of frozen poultry, most frozen poultry are from poultry processors who use hormones to maximize poultry size and growth rate and they use antibiotics to prevent disease, at the end of the day the hormones and antibiotics still remain in the birds.

Now coming to fish and other seafood: if you are doing cancer it is advisable to avoid seafood altogether, if you must eat fish, ensure the product is caught in the wild, all seafood caught from fresh or salt water is contaminated with toxic metals and dangerous chemicals. Worthy of mention is non-whole and processed foods, run away from food products with more than one ingredients for they are not whole foods, whole UN-ground grains are healthier, for those interested in eating bread watch out for the word 'whole', highly advisable to avoid packaged food because they usually contain multiple ingredients.

Did I hear you ask what of food with additive? Foods with additives like: preservatives, emulsifiers, colorings, anti-caking agent, thickeners, flooring's, bulking agents, sauces, added seasonings or chemical names should be avoided with a long pole. What of hydrogenated fats and artificial sweeteners? Avoid them, the way you should avoid a leper, they are not healthy, if you must eat fat, eat real organic butter and not substitutes.
