Beginning Your Weight Training Program

So youve finally set your heart on beginning your weight training program. Dont just plunge into it, though. A lot of people are so gung ho at starting that they do so without proper preparation. This could lead to some false starts that could burn you out and turn you off from working out. That would be a waste. Making sure that you are well prepared for what you will be committing yourself to will ensure that you can follow through for the long haul.

One of the first things you should do is to have clear cut goals for your program. List down what it is that you want to achieve. Are you targeting a certain weight for yourself? Would that mean having to lose weight or gain weight? Is there a certain way you want your body to look like? Do you want to bulk up your muscles or do you want them toned, long and lean? This is very important for you to determine because the weight training regimen you choose will be determined by your specific goals. Consult a professional to ensure that the program you will be doing is compatible with your goals.

Once you have the correct program, you should not just go through it. You should also diligently monitor your progress by taking regular measurements and recording this in a workout journal. This means accurately measuring your chest, waist, biceps, hips, and thighs just before you begin your program and every day before you do your workout. It would also help to assess your body objectively in front of a mirror. Before the program, note down the areas of your body you want to improve on. Every day, note down any changes you observe. Your measurements and your visual observations will guide you in assessing how well your regimen is working. Any improvements you see will also help motivate you to do even better.

Aside from the actual exercises, your workout regimen also includes proper patterns of eating and sleeping. You should learn what food to avoid and what food to add to your diet to supplement your efforts. Make sure you dont eat too late after your workouts. This ensures that your muscles are well fed. Keep in mind that during a workout, you are tearing up muscle fibers. Your body needs the proper nutrients to repair these muscles. This is also why you need to sleep well for at least eight hours every night. Muscle repair and growth happen mostly while the body is in deep sleep.

If you are well prepared for your weight training program, the chances of your sticking to it for the long term are increased. So are the chances of your reaping the hard earned fruits of your labor.
